Annual Latin Banquet
We’re making plans for the twenty-seventh annual Latin banquet, to be held in Nazro Hall on the 31st Street campus on Sunday, November 8, from approximately 3 until 5:30 P.M. Latin students in grades 5 through 12 are required to attend and to participate.
AP Vergil seniors will have their choice of costume; other AP Vergil students will dress as characters from the Aeneid. Seventh and eighth graders will be gods and goddesses. Latin Literature Survey students will dress as authors from the Silver Age or characters from the Satyricon. Latin III students will be historical characters and literary figures. Sophomores and juniors in Latin II will be citizens, soldiers, priests, or gladiators. Sixth graders will be citizens, priests or priestesses, or soldiers. Freshmen, Latin I students, and fifth graders will be servers. Costuming does not need to be elaborate, but we expect students to wear some type of costume. Sheets can be used for togas and stolas, and extra long t-shirts for tunics.
The food will be catered and is going to be delicious! All students except sixth must pay $15.00 to their Latin teachers by October 16. Students in the sixth grade must pay $20.00, of which $5.00 covers dues for Junior Classical League.
The Latin classes are spending time in preparation for the banquet. Between now and the banquet, be thinking about costumes. Prizes will be awarded for the best costume in each class. Thank you for your help and support. Parents should contact their child’s Latin teacher or Claudia Dollen (dollencb [at] yahoo [dot] com) if they are interested in volunteering.
